PLANTING THE SEED

(THE HUMBLE BEGINNING)

North harding

LOGAN SQUARE | AVONDALE

REHABBED 3 UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING. SOLD FULLY OCCUPIED.

PLANTING THE SEED - Like the life cycle of a plant, North Harding was the seed planted and the roots taking hold.  It was Enrico Hufana's first major project.  An apartment building with three units, and the intent to rehabilitate the properties interior and exterior to create a safe, affordable and updated living space for the residences of Logan Square and Avondale.

Like most projects there is a balance to maintain - resources / ideas / space. Quality and aesthetics cannot be sacrificed, all materials must be cost effective and maintain beauty. Ideas must be creative and current to the demographic. Space needs to be unified but distinguished and maximized to its potential.

Quality and aesthetics, durability and beauty. This combination can always be found in wood. The strength and flexibility, the natural detail of age, the ability to absorb color and keep its natural lines make it fitting for natural and organic matter to enhance living.

The idea was to create a space where a human being would thrive under the elements of light.  Replacing windows and moldings and reinstalling light fixtures so that a person can be productive and healthy, and love their place of rest.

Humans need space; when they are constricted they don't reach their potential. The flow of the units are not obstructed by divisions, rather there is room to breathe, room to work, room to lounge, room to sleep, room to eat without feeling confined.

North Hardings units were inspired by preserving and introducing more natural and organic materials and to create a healthy and affordable living space.
